revitalization in the historic downtown area of Georgetown has produced
a wonderful river front harbourwalk, and a downtown shopping area filled
with fabulous shopping in the many quaint specialty shops, antique stores
,bookstores and art galleries.
Georgetown's historic
district with its 60+ National Historic Register sites can be experienced
by motor tram or by a personally guided walking tour. Many homes in Georgetown's
historic district date back to the early 1700s making it the third oldest
city in South Carolina. For the more adventuresome there are several boat
excursions leaving from the harbor area; you can experience a sailing adventure
on a tall sailing ship , explore historic rice plantations, or see the
Georgetown Lighthouse and explore for shells on a secluded beach.
A visit to the Grand Strand
